MARIA CALLAS (1924-1977)
Photos taken at L'Opéra de Paris (Garnier) of the Franco Zeffirelli production of Bellini's NORMA in May/June 1965 featuring Maria Callas along with Fiorenza Cossotto (b.1935) and Gianfranco Cecchele (1938-2018) and conducted by Georges Prêtre (1924-2017).
I attended performances on 31st May, 24th and 29th June of that year. The 4th act of this latter performance did not take place. The reasons were apparent to all of us in the theatre so that the audience left saddened but in respectful silence although some irresponsible journalists, for the sake of sensation, disgracefully pretended otherwise.
